The UEFA Ranking

Berths for UEFA Cup are sent (except 1995/96): countries ranked 1-3: 4 berths 4-8: 3 berths 9-21: 2 berths rest: 1 berth (except countries not admitted) In 1995/96 berths were sent: countries ranked 1-3: 4 berths 4-8: 3 berths 9-21: 2 berths 22-36: 1 berth rest: none Unused berths are usually sent to countries ranked 9th, 10th etc. Preliminary rounds are always included. Since 1987/88-1991/92 special tie-breaker (the most recent season) is used. USSR until 1986/87-1990/91 Russia from 1987/88-1991/92 (recalculated) Czechoslovakia until 1988/89-1992/93 Czech Rep. and Slovakia from 1989/90-1993/94 Yugoslavia until 1988/89-1992/93 Yugoslavia recalculated due to split up 1989/90-1993/94 and 1990/91-1994/95 New Yugoslavia with excluded pre-war results from 1991/92-1995/96 Liechtenstein is in the Ranking only for seeding. For UEFA Cup berths it is not included.

Seeding for the European Cups

Preliminary rounds are included in the seeding for 1990/91 and 1991/92; excluded from the seeding for 1992/93-1994/95 and UEFA Cup 1995/96-1998/99. Russia from the seeding for 1992/93 (recalculated). Czechoslovakia until 1993/94. Czech Rep. and Slovakia from 1994/95 (not included 1993/94 results, possible that only CWC results included - not enough to have country coefficient). For 1993/94 Slovak representative in CWC got 0.000 as a country coefficient. Rest teams were representing Czechoslovak league or cup. Yugoslavian country coefficient never used - no participants in 92/93, 93/94 and 94/95. "New" countries get 0.000 as a country coefficient (except Russia). It's unknown whether the seeding was used in the preliminaries in seasons 1990/91-1993/94 and how it was used exactly for the Champions' League draws (pots, etc.). The number of the seeded teams is equal to the number of the unseeded teams except UEFA Cup 1st round, where only 16 teams are seeded.
