UEFA Intertoto Cup 2000
Format (seem to be based on New UEFA Ranking (1994/95 - 1998/99) for a change - in last year ranking for period 92-97 was in charge!):
- countries ranked 1-12 are eligible to send two teams for the competition
- countries ranked 13-48 are eligible to send one team for the competition
Places in the respective rounds are disposed as follows:
- 1st teams from countries ranked 1-8 - starting from the 3rd round
- 2nd teams from countries ranked 1-8 and 1st teams from countries ranked
9-12 - starting from the 2nd round
- 2nd teams from countries ranked 9-12 and teams from countries ranked
13-48 - starting from the 1st round
That gives 60 teams in total. 40 teams play in the first round. 20 winners
meet 12 teams (directly qualified for 2nd round) in the second round. 16 winners
meet 8 teams (directly qualified for 3rd round) in the third round. 12 winners
play in the fourth round. 6 winners play in the finals for the three UEFA Cup
berths.
As in previous years some countries refused to play in UIC. However, in this
year competition, 45 countries out of 51 UEFA members will have at least one
participant.
Top 12 consists of Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Netherlands, England,
Russia, Greece, Portugal, Czech Republic, Austria, Denmark.
The bottom three teams who don't compete are Liechtenstein (no domestic
league), Andorra and San Marino. The other countries that refused to play
in the competition are Portugal, Ukraine and Scotland.
Movements
- Netherlands left one place in 2nd round - it went to France
- Greece left one place in 2nd round - it went to Czech Rep.
- Portugal left two places (one in 1st and one in 2nd round) - they went
respectively to Croatia and Austria.
- Ukraine and Scotland left their places in 1st round. They were taken
by Switzerland and Belgium.
